John Warburton U.E. on the War of 1812 and the Capture of York

Relive the spine chilling events as the city of Toronto is under siege from an American force in the harbour. A naval flotilla has landed on the lake shore to the west, defeated the defending British force and captured the fort, town and dockyard. As they made their strategic retreat, the British have blown up the fort’s magazine. Now, the American forces are looting and the Parliament buildings are in flames. Come, feel the heat! A man of trademark enthusiasm, John’s presentation is as entertaining as it is informative with much audience participation.

Celebrate thirty years or so of the West Toronto Junction Historical Society!  Join us for our annual Christmas/Solstice Social.  We’ll be previewing our special edition of the Leader and Recorder and reminiscing about the years that led up to WTJHS winning two Heritage Toronto Awards including the prestigious Member’s Choice Award.  As well, visit our Ad Hoc Museum of artifacts and curios from Junction Past and our member’s closets.  Bring something to share for Show and Tell.  Come for the history and stay for great food and witty banter.  Be there or be doomed to repeat yourself!

The goal of the Holiday Train is
to collect food and money for local food banks and to raise awareness in the fight against hunger. At each event, the Holiday Train provides a box car stage, a line up of great musical talents and a corporate contribution to the local food bank. The community, in turn, is encouraged to donate food and funds, all of which stays in the community.

Location: 750 Runnymede Rd, in front of CP Lambton yard office, parking only in Walmart lot [Runnymede south  of St. Clair, entrance opposite Ryding Ave.]

“Monarchy in Canada: the Junction Debate”

 Should We Abolish the Monarchy in Canada and declare a Canadian Republic?

Debaters Tom Freda, National Director of the Citizens for a Canadian Republic and WTJHS president Neil Ross will bring an often hilarious, but informed approach to their respective positions.  Hosted by two-time Governor General’s Award winning historian and Junction resident, Christopher Moore.

Come for our business meeting — which can be pretty funny and informed on its own — and stay for the debate.  Refreshments are available for a donation.
