Tales of Toronto Transit

Local transit enthusiasts Trevor Parkins-Sciberras (and WTJHS member) and David Reigate will be giving a presentation on our beloved TTC, and its predecessors. Starting with horse-drawn public transit in Toronto, prior to the founding of the West Toronto Junction, the presentation will then shift to focus on the Junction and its public transit history, including the suburban & civic railways, the early Humberside double-decker bus, the 40 Junction trolley bus, and the Bloor-Danforth Subway Extension.

Featured will be a many archival photos of transit in the Junction, as well as historic video clips of old streetcars, and the new bus routes.

The Presenters

• Trevor’s family history is well connected to the Junction. His dad’s grandparents immigrated from Malta to the Junction in the 1920s. Trevor has lived in 9 houses around the Junction area, and attended Indian Road Crescent School, Howard Park Alternative, Annette St. Public School, Humberside CI, and Western Tech. Trevor continues to live in the Junction.
• David was born and raised in Etobicoke. He is a lifelong transit enthusiast with a passion for history involving transit and the areas it served. David started to do volunteering on the Halton County Radial Railway when he was 13 years old, which was 23 years ago

WTJHS’ Tour of the City of Toronto Archives – Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am – Space is Limited!

Are you interested in researching your house?  Have you ever wondered when was your house built?  Who lived in your house?  Who built it?  Who else lived there?  What did the community look like?  Find out all this and more from the City of Toronto Archives.  There will be a tour of the Archives and presentations on:  West Toronto Junction Records held by the Archives and Researching your house.

This session has been organized for WTJHS members.  You must register to attend the session.  There is a limited number of spaces.  Please send an e-mail to the Society at junctionhistorical@gmail.com.  Please title your e-mail – Tour of City of Toronto Archives.   Please include the names of who will be attending and phone numbers

City of Toronto Archives are located at 255 Spadina Road.  The City of Toronto Archives is located on Spadina Road, one block north of Dupont Street.   The Toronto Archives building is wheelchair accessible.
By public transit: 
The City of Toronto Archives is easy to get to by public transit: the Dupont 26 Bus stops at Spadina Road and walk north or exit the University subway line at Dupont Station and walk north.
There is very limited free parking. A pay parking lot is available on the south side of MacPherson Avenue, west of Spadina Road.
