HISTORICAL FALL FESTIVAL – OCT 16 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM

What makes this event historical? We are inviting you to help celebrate the 110th anniversary of the West Toronto Lawn Bowling Club and the 40-plus one years of the West Toronto Junction Historical Society.

Come and join us with a get-together including Lawn Bowling demos and kids’ games. Then join Past WTJHS President Neil Ross for a short presentation and a rollicking Junction walking tour of the neighbourhood.

What kind of historical questions will Neil be able to answer for you? Did the CPR illegally tear down the West Toronto Railway station 40 years ago? Who robbed the Royal Mail before escaping to the U.S.? Why was the Junction dry for nearly 100 years? Just how wild does a town have to get to shut down its own bars? What replaced the bars after they closed?

Come and find out the answer to these questions and more at the WTJHS/West Toronto Lawn Bowling Club’s Historical Fall Festival.

Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.

Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family, and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.

The WTJHS stands in solidarity with all of Canada today honouring the children who died while attending residential schools and the survivors, families, and communities still affected by the horrible legacy of the residential school system.
