Join the WTJHS members for our annual night of celebration and good cheer! This year we will be meeting at our regular venue,  the Annette Public Library. We will be previewing the video from the August 2017 Event “Walk the 6 West: History on the Humber,” and we are planning other fun events for the evening! The 125th Anniversary of Humberside Collegiate Institute

The WTJHS will celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Humberside Collegiate Institute at our October 5, 2017 meeting. Graeme Dymond, Co-Chair of the Humberside Reunion Committee will be at the meeting to discuss the upcoming Anniversary Celebration which will take place during the weekend of October 20th and 21st. WTJHS members who are former students of Humberside will also share their memories and tales of their days at Humberside.

Uncovering the Indigenous History of the Junction

A presentation by our summer students, Leanne Daly and Rahemah Siddiqui.  This presentation will highlight the Indigenous archaeological sites in and around The Junction including the Seneca village of Teiaiagon at Baby Point and various controversial burial effigy mounds. The students will also discuss the significance of the Humber River and the Toronto Carrying Place to Indigenous peoples over thousands of years and some extraordinary Indigenous projects and initiatives by the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation and other Indigenous groups in Toronto today. They will describe their research processes including visits to municipal, provincial, and university archives, an Anishinaabeg museum exhibit, and an interview with the Indigenous artist Philip Cote whose Anishinaabe creation story murals can now be seen on the bridge supports at Old Mill subway station.
